In the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, a man named Shokhruz Butaev beat and stabbed his wife for five hours. Once in the hospital, the woman recorded a video in which she talked about what happened and also reported on the inaction of law enforcement agencies.
According to the victim, she married Butaev in 2017. The couple has one child. The woman claims that her husband, while under the influence of psychotropic drugs, stabbed her father to death. In 2019, they separated, and she remained to live with the child. On the advice of lawyers, the woman was moved into Butaev’s house. The beating took place there on October 8th.
The woman said that her husband injured her from 11:00 to 16:00. He threatened to kill her and reminded her that he had previously killed her father. The woman lost consciousness several times and begged to be released, promising that she would not contact law enforcement. At some point, a friend started calling her, and Butaev, afraid that she knew their address, broke the phone and took his wife to the hospital himself.
“He threatened that if I complained to the authorities, he would come and kill me. They didn’t call the police at the emergency room, they didn’t send me for an examination. I myself went for an examination to film the beatings. <...> He worked in the authorities, perhaps that’s why no one is taking up the case. “, the woman said.
The situation was taken under control by the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, the Department of Internal Affairs of the Tashkent Region and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As Gazeta.uz writes with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office, a criminal case has been opened against Butaev under the article on domestic domestic violence (Article 126−1 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan). The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that he is in custody.
