Workers from different sectors of the public service in the state of São Paulo will carry out a general strike on November 28th, in another stage of the mobilization against the plans to privatize services by the government headed by Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
The movement promises to be even bigger than the strike on October 3rd, when employees of the Metro, Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) and Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp) carried out a unified strike.
On October 31st, representatives from different categories met to articulate the movement’s next steps. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Union of Official Education Teachers of the State of São Paulo (Apeoesp), the Union of Public Health Workers in the State of São Paulo (SindSaúde), the Union of Workers of the Paula Souza Center (Sinteps) and the Union of Socioeducation of São Paulo (Sitsesp).
Together, the categories defined the mobilization date and the priority agendas. In addition to confronting privatizations, the movement will protest the arbitrary dismissals of Metro workers, against an administrative reform project presented by Tarcísio’s government and against cuts in priority areas, such as education.
“We unify. It is a fight that will involve the entire public service so that we can defeat these projects that are in the Legislative Assembly. We understand that, to defeat these projects and the attack on the service, public servants and state-owned companies, we will do this in a unified way, to show that all these segments involved are committed to defending public service”, the president of Apeoesp, Fábio de Moraes, told Brasil de Fato.
In addition to the strike, the categories are organizing protests for the 28th. Among the planned activities is an event at the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp). The mobilization of the categories continues on other fronts, such as the popular plebiscite on privatization, scheduled to end next Sunday (5).
