In Moscow, police beat local resident Tamerlan Marzoev after insulting him because of his nationality. Team Against Torture reports this.
Security forces stopped Marzoev on the street on the evening of October 14, when he and his pregnant wife were returning home. The police blocked their way in a car, got out and, without introducing themselves, immediately demanded to see their documents. They started asking where Marzoev was from.
“I replied that I had been living in Moscow since the seventh grade and that I was a native of North Ossetia. At that moment, the employee said: “Why did you come here in large numbers?”,” the man said.
After being asked about her nationality, Marzoev’s wife began arguing with the police, and then the man stood between them, telling the security forces that the woman was pregnant. Almost immediately after this, one of the police officers hit him in the jaw several times. Marzoev fell on the asphalt and hit his head. After this, the couple was taken to the police department, where Marzoev continued to be insulted because of his nationality. The man was also forced to strip naked and sit down three times.
The police took Marzoev to the hospital, where he was x-rayed and sent to City Clinical Hospital No. 1. There he was diagnosed with a bilateral jaw fracture and numerous bruises on his head. The man was left in the hospital, and a few days later he underwent surgery, from which he still has not recovered.
Marzoev’s lawyers filed statements about the crime to the Koptevsky Interdistrict Investigation Department of the RF IC and to the Main Investigation Department of the RF IC for Moscow, and also sent an application for an internal audit of the police to the Internal Security Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow.
