President of Moldova Maia Sandu said on Radio Moldova that she does not plan to sign a decree appointing the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, as a member of the government, although this is required by the country’s legislation.
She allegedly explained her decision by saying that Hutsul was working “for a criminal group.”
“All this time, while she is working for a criminal group, I am not going to sign a decree. If she starts representing the interests of citizens and breaks ties with the criminal group, then the situation will be different,” RIA Novosti quotes her.
As she noted, she and the prosecutor’s office already have some evidence indicating that Hutsul is a member of a criminal group.
Earlier in Moldova, the government commission for emergency situations suspended candidates from the opposition Chance party from participating in general elections to local authorities. This decision was made two days before the elections.
