The Finnish government, due to the uncontrolled arrival of people through checkpoints on the border with Russia, is temporarily ceasing the operation of three checkpoints in the northeast of the country – Vartius, Salla and Kuusamo.
The Finnish Border Guard informs about this.
According to the agency, illegal entry across the eastern border of Finland has increased significantly.
“Illegal entry is of an organized nature, and the situation is also related to international crime,” they said.
Earlier, the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that almost all checkpoints on the border with Russia are closed until December 23.
Also, the head of the Estonian Ministry of Internal Affairs Lauri Läänemets noted that Estonia does not yet plan to close the border with Russia.
