The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg ordered the Ministry of Internal Affairs to pay 1,200,000 rubles to a native of Kazakhstan as compensation for moral damages for the sexualized violence she experienced at the hands of police officers. This was reported by the human rights organization “Traumpunkt”.
The incident occurred in August 2019. Police officers detained the girl and then raped her in a police car. If she resisted, they threatened to take her to the department and “let her go in a circle.”
Three police officers who participated in the rape were sentenced to real terms in a general regime colony in 2022. Vadim Mustafin was sentenced to six years, Vyacheslav Tropin – five and a half, and Andrei Bessarabov – five. They were found guilty of rape (clause “a” part 2 of article 131) and violent acts of a sexual nature committed by prior conspiracy (clause “a” part 2 of article 132 of the Criminal Code).
Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs objected to satisfying the victim’s claim, since the PPS employees were not accused of exceeding their official powers, which means that claims for compensation cannot be brought against the ministry. The victim herself demanded to pay three million. She plans to appeal the court’s decision due to low compensation.
