A symbol of resistance and occupation of Belo Horizonte’s public space, the Duel of MCs has been taking place in the city since 2007. Before focusing on the viaduct, the disputes were held in Praça da Estação, where the Youth Reference Center (CRJ) now operates. .
In Belo Horizonte, Bill (PL) 564/2023, which awaits sanction by Mayor Fuad Noman (PSD), intends to establish the Municipal Incentive Program for Battles of Rhymes, Soirees and Slams. One of its objectives is to include Hip Hop culture in public policies, recognizing its agents of cultural formation.
The program also aims to add cultural events related to the theme to the Municipality’s Official Calendar of Events (Cofem), so that private agents and other institutions can support their implementation. The PL was proposed by the PSOL and PT benches at the Belo Horizonte City Council (CMBH).
