Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Charles Brown, said in an interview with NBC that the words of former American leader Donald Trump about refusing to defend NATO allies in the event of an attack on them jeopardize the credibility of the United States in each of the alliances in which America participates.
“U.S. credibility is at stake in each of our alliances, and U.S. leadership remains needed, sought after and at the forefront,” Brown said.
Trump previously said that the United States would not protect NATO allies who do not meet the alliance's defense spending requirements from a hypothetical attack by Russia.
At the same time, American President Joe Biden noted that NATO ensures the security of the United States.
